We're excited to announce two milestones: Bnchmrk now has meaningful benchmarking data in all 50 states plus DC, and we've launched state-level filtering to let you use that data effectively.
The Coverage Journey
When we started Bnchmrk in 2015, we had data in 7 markets. Year by year, we've expanded:
- 2016: 12 states
- 2017: 22 states
- 2018: 28 states
- 2019: 43 states
- 2020: All 50 states + DC
This wasn't just about adding pins on a map. We waited to claim coverage in each state until we had enough verified plans to provide statistically meaningful benchmarks.
Why State-Level Data Matters
National averages tell you something, but they hide enormous variation. An employer in Mississippi faces different competitive dynamics than one in Massachusetts. A Texas manufacturer competes against other Texas manufacturers, not a national composite.
State-level filtering lets you benchmark against the actual competitive landscape your clients operate in.
What's Now Possible
With state-level filtering, you can:
Build precise peer groups: Filter by state AND industry AND size to find true peers.
Identify regional patterns: See how benefits practices vary across states.
Support multi-state employers: Clients with operations in multiple states can benchmark against relevant markets for each location.
Navigate state-specific dynamics: Some states have unique market conditions, regulatory environments, or competitive pressures. Now you can see them in the data.
How to Use It
State filtering is available throughout the platform:
- Select your base criteria (industry, company size)
- Add state filter—single state or multiple states
- Generate benchmarks against that refined peer group
The more dimensions you filter, the more specific your comparisons become.
The Bottom Line
Benefits decisions happen at the local level. Your data should too. With all 50 states covered and state-level filtering live, Bnchmrk delivers the geographic precision that competitive benchmarking requires.
